AC Milan and Juventus express interest in signing Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard

With his contract at Old Trafford set to expire this summer, multiple Italian clubs have joined the race to sign Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard.

The 29-year-old is set to leave Manchester on a free transfer in June, and according to ESPN, AC Milan and Juventus are leading candidates to sign Lingard.

The Englishman is eager to find regular first-team football ahead of the upcoming World Cup in November and will hope to fight for a starting place in Gareth Southgate’s squad.

Lingard has had an impressive career with the Red Devils after coming through the club’s academy but has failed to find consistent playing time in the last few seasons.

He has made 232 senior appearances across 20 seasons with his boyhood club and has won 4 trophies, including a Europa League title back in 2017.

A failed loan move to Newcastle United in January and a lack of opportunities under interim manager Ralf Rangnick all indicate that the Englishman has fallen out of United’s plans for the future.

Lingard’s loan move to West Ham United during the 2020-21 season saw him amass nine goals and five assists in 16 Premier League matches and prove that he still has what it takes to compete at the top level.

A move to Italy would see Lingard join the likes of Chris Smalling, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Rui Patrício, and Tammy Abraham as former Premier League players that have moved to Serie A

Lingard’s departure would be just one of many that United fans can expect in the summer, as it is anticipated that Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, and Paul Pogba will all leave on free transfers.
