Manchester City are in the running to sign Olympique Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking in the latest edition of his Here We Go podcast, Romano confirmed City’s interest in Paqueta as one of two midfield targets alongside Sporting Lisbon’s Matheus Nunes:
“I’m told that Lucas Paqueta is a player they [City] really appreciate, with his skills. It will be a complicated and tough negotiation with Lyon.
“He is a star, it will be more than complicated – no talks, but they do like Paqueta.”
Paqueta has enjoyed a stellar campaign this term, racking up 10 goals and seven assists in 41 games across all competitions for Les Gones.
Despite his current Lyon contract set to expire in 2025, the 24-year-old could be heading for the exit door this summer amid interest from a number of clubs.
Per French outlet L’Equipe (h/t Get French Football News), Paqueta will only make a decision on his future at the end of the season.
Pep Guardiola’s men are not the only Premier League side thought to be eyeing a move for Paqueta with both Arsenal and Newcastle also said to be interested, while Paris Saint-Germain remain huge admirers.
The Brazilian is expected to command a transfer fee in the region of £58million which could prove to be a stumbling block for Arsenal.
However, PSG, City and Newcastle all boast a huge financial muscle and could be more willing to fork out such a significant amount for the midfielder.
Likewise, Eddie Howe’s men were also turned down by Paqueta in the January transfer window but the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes could help boost the Magpies’ chances this time around.
