Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp labels Divock Origi world-class, confirms his exit this summer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for Divock Origi following his late winner against Everton in the Premier League.

Origi, who was brought in as a substitute at the hour mark, scored the winning strike in the 85th minute in the 2-0 victory over the Merseyside rivals, which has also helped the Reds keep up the pressure on Manchester City in the title race.

Following the win, Klopp heaped praises on Origi’s performance, calling him a world-class striker and a Reds legend on and off the pitch.

Klopp said (h/t This is Anfield): “He’s a legend on and off the pitch, I have to say, that’s how it is.

“He is a fantastic footballer. For me – and I know it sounds ridiculous because I don’t line him up often – he’s a world-class striker.

“He’s our best finisher, definitely. He always was, and everybody would say the same.

“When you see him doing these kinds of things in training and he’s not in the squad because of the quality of other players, that is really hard I can imagine.”

The German manager also confirmed Origi’s exit this summer, stating that the Belgian striker will be missed more than any other player.

Klopp added: “Whatever Div will do in his future, if he gets back for what he’s doing here for Liverpool, I probably will never, ever miss a player more than Divock Origi.

“Because he will just explode wherever he goes.”

Origi’s contract runs out this summer, with AC Milan understood to be the frontrunners to sign him, having an agreement in place.

Despite not being the first-choice striker over the last few seasons, Origi has impressed whenever he is on the field, and he is most notably known for his clutch performances.

The highest point of his seven-year career at Anfield will be his heroics in the memorable comeback against Barcelona in the semi-finals of the 2018/19 Champions League season, followed by another decisive strike in the finals against Tottenham Hotspur.
