Ralf Rangnick claims Man Utd need around ten players for rebuild after Liverpool defeat

Manchester United’s struggles on the field continued with a 4-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield last night, which also dwindled their chances of making it to the top four.

The Merseysiders showed no remorse to the Red Devils – as they did in the reverse fixture – as the fearsome front three of Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah found the scoresheet.

Speaking after the defeat, Man Utd’s interim coach Ralf Rangnick admitted that the club is in an embarrassing state and needs as many as ten new signings in the rebuild.

Rangnick said (h/t Sky Sports): “It’s embarrassing, it’s disappointing, maybe even humiliating.

“We have to accept Liverpool are six years ahead of us now.

“When Jurgen Klopp came they changed at the club and lifted not just the team but the club and city to a new level. That is what needs to happen with us in the next transfer windows.

“There will be a rebuild for sure but that does not help us when we still have five games to play.

“If you analyse the situation it is not difficult to analyse. For me, it is clear there will be six, seven, eight, maybe ten new players. Before you sign those players you need to be aware how you want to play.”

Erik ten Hag is set to become the new permanent manager of the Red Devils, with the announcement imminent.

However, the Ajax boss awaits a massive task at Old Trafford to help the Red Devils return to their best.

Rangnick’s comments are obvious since plenty of first-team stars are facing an uncertain future, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata, Paul Pogba and Mason Greenwood.
