Who are the best U20 midfielders in football at the moment?
It is fair to say we are spoilt for choice, with the sport currently awash with young midfielders who have been making headlines in recent times.
Let’s look at five players who we think are the best U20 midfielders in football right now.
Ryan Gravenberch
Gravenberch’s rise to prominence with Ajax has inevitably attracted admiring glances from some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
The 19-year-old has already made more than 100 appearances for the Dutch giants and is now closing in on a summer move to Bayern Munich.
His style of play should be ideally suited to German football, and he could prove to be a bargain for around €35 million.
Eduardo Camavinga
Real Madrid beat off plenty of competition to sign Eduardo Camavinga from Rennes last summer, and their decision already appears to have been vindicated.
Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Liverpool were amongst the clubs linked with the teenager, highlighting how highly he is regarded.
He has added plenty of energy to Madrid’s midfield options, while his ability on the ball marks him down as a true top-class performer.
Pedri
Pedri’s performance for Barcelona against Sevilla last weekend left the fans wowed and the Spanish media singing his praises.
His goal was the difference between the two sides, but it was his all-round performance that demonstrated his future potential.
The way he left Ivan Rakitic and Diego Carlos looking silly before he scored was a thing of beauty – the sky is undoubtedly the limit for Pedri.
Jude Bellingham
Bellingham’s meteoric rise from promising Birmingham City player to becoming a major star with Borussia Dortmund is something dreams are made of.
His superb form in the Bundesliga saw him handed a senior debut by England in November 2020, and there have been plenty of calls for him to start in midfield at the 2022 World Cup.
Bellingham has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League – don’t be surprised to see incoming Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag move for him this summer.
Gavi
A product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, Gavi is a technically gifted midfielder with the world at his feet.
The 17-year-old has 25 appearances in La Liga this season to become the latest homegrown talent to establish himself as a first-team regular.
Gavi’s impressive form led to him becoming Spain’s youngest player, aged just 17 years and 62 days. He possesses the ability to become a legend for club and country.
