England vs Switzerland: Preview – Prediction, team news, line-ups

England ramp up their preparations for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar on Saturday when they go head-to-head with Switzerland.

Manager Gareth Southgate will be keen to build on a qualifying campaign that saw them rattle home 39 goals in ten matches.

However, draws against Poland and Hungary highlighted that he still has work to do if the Three Lions are going to end their long wait for silverware.

Switzerland will undoubtedly provide a tough test after finishing top of their group ahead of Italy to qualify for Qatar 2022.

Match Preview

England have not been defeated since blowing a big chance to win a major trophy at the 2020 European Championships.

They are unbeaten in their last 12 outings against Switzerland, with their last defeat coming in a World Cup qualifier in 1981.

The Three Lions have not conceded against the Swiss in their last four meetings and will fancy their chances of extending that run at Wembley Stadium.

Harry Kane will be keen to continue his good run of form as he bids to climb up the England top scorers rankings.

Five wins and three draws were enough to secure top spot for Switzerland ahead of Italy in their World Cup qualifying group.

There was no real surprise in their achievement, given they are now firmly established as one of the stronger teams in Europe.

Their victory over France after a penalty shoot-out at Euro 2020 highlighted their ability to make life difficult for the top teams.

However, they have struggled to score against England in recent times and their attackers could be in for another tough outing here.
