Leicester City vs Brentford: Preview – Prediction, team news, line-ups

Leicester City’s bottom-half encounter against Brentford at the King Power Stadium will serve to get Sunday’s Premier League action underway.

Brendan Rodgers’ side could have earmarked this fixture as an opportunity to get their pursuit of a fifth consecutive top-flight finish back on track.

The Foxes are desperate to climb up the ladder as they currently languish in 12th in the Premier League table, and with three games in hand on several mid-table rivals, they have a legitimate case here.

Resurgent Brentford could be a threat, though, especially after winning back-to-back Premier League outings against Norwich City and Burnley, each by a two-goal margin.

Match Preview

Leicester City

Going back to 1953, Leicester have won four of their five league meetings with Brentford (D1), including a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture back in October.

Rodgers’ side must be lining up another success after winning their last three competitive matches at the King Power by an aggregate score of 7-1.

When it comes to Premier League action, the Foxes have won once in their last four home league games (D2, L1), keeping a single clean sheet in that spread of matches.

However, Leicester have been relentless against newly-promoted clubs this season, having won all three such match-ups despite conceding on each occasion.

Brentford

Brentford have only suffered one defeat across their ten league matches away to Leicester (W4, D5), but this will be their first visit to the East Midlands since 1973.

The abovementioned consecutive wins over Burnley and Norwich are as many as the Bees had in their previous 14 Premier League outings combined (D2, L10).

That run explains how Brentford went from top-half high-flyers to facing the prospect of being sucked into the relegation battle, yet an eight-point lead on 18th-placed Watford looks comfortable.

Particularly dangerous from set-pieces, Thomas Frank’s men have registered 50% of their Premier League goals scored this season from such plays (16/32).

Team News

Timothy Castagne, Jonny Evans, Jamie Vardy, Danny Ward, Ryan Bertrand and Marc Albrighton are definite absentees in the Leicester camp, while Boubakary Soumare and Wilfried Ndidi could recover in time.

As for Brentford, Joshua Dasilva is unavailable for selection due to suspension, while Tarique Fosu and Julian Jeanvier are out with injuries.

Leicester City Potential Starting XI:

(4-2-3-1): Kasper Schmeichel; Ricardo Pereira, Daniel Amartey, Caglar Soyuncu, James Justin; Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Youri Tielemans; Ademola Lookman, James Maddison, Harvey Barnes; Patson Daka.

Brentford Potential Starting XI:

(4-4-2): David Raya; Kristoffer Ajer, Pontus Jansson, Ethan Pinnock, Rico Henry; Christian Eriksen, Christian Norgaard, Vitaly Janelt, Sergi Canos; Bryan Mbuemo, Ivan Toney.

Leicester City vs Brentford Prediction

It has been a thoroughly underwhelming domestic season for Leicester so far, but they should still be able to come out on top of this fixture.

Although Brentford could benefit from the Midlanders’ involvement in midweek Europa League action in terms of freshness, we back Rodgers’ team to prevail in what may be a close affair.
