Frenkie de Jong wants to stay at Barcelona for many years, plays down Bayern rumours

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has said that he is happy at Camp Nou and wants to play for the Catalan club for many years.

The Dutch midfielder struggled to be at his best during the first half of this season, which led to the rumours that Barcelona could sell him to ease their financial situation.

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich were touted as one of the potential suitors for the former Ajax star.

However, De Jong has experienced a change of fortunes in recent weeks, playing a key role behind Barca’s resurgence under Xavi.

The 24-year-old looks to have regained his confidence after putting in some impressive displays of late.

He scored a stunning goal in Barca’s 4-2 victory over Serie A giants Napoli in the Europa League while he was also instrumental in the 2-1 comeback win over Galatasaray in the round of 16 last night.

Following the win against the Turkish giants, De Jong has made his feelings clear that he is not thinking of an exit from the Catalan giants.

He also added that he would like to pen a six-year extension if given the opportunity.

De Jong told Ziggo Sport (h/t Fabrizio Romano): “I love being at Barcelona! I’d probably sign a six-year contract extension if they’d propose me, yes.”

When asked whether the rumours about Bayern Munich are true, De Jong replied: No, no… I am so happy at Barcelona and I would love to play here for as long as possible.”

De Jong will next turn his attention towards La Liga as Barcelona are set to play Real Madrid in an exciting El Clasico this weekend.
