Three talking points from Arsenal’s win over Leicester City

Arsenal secured a fifth-straight Premier League win following a 2-0 triumph over Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening.

Thomas Partey opened the scoring with a header from a corner in the 11th minute. Alexandre Lacazette double the advantage from the penalty spot before the hour mark.

With the victory, the Gunners have now reclaimed their fourth spot on the league table ahead of Manchester United, who have already played three games more.

Three talking points from Arsenal’s win over Leicester

Thomas Partey at his best

Partey had a frustrating debut campaign with the Gunners hampered by injuries. His start to the current season was also far from impressive, but he has come into his own in recent months.

The Ghanaian made a terrific start to the year with a strong showing against Manchester City despite being on the losing side. He has since put in a consistent run of top-class displays in the league.

He was at his best against the Foxes, opening the scoring early with a header. He nearly scored a second but was denied by the woodwork. The 28-year-old also played a key part in the second goal.

His header towards goal paved the way for the penalty after Caglar Soyuncu handled the ball. Aside from his goal contributions, he won all six duels attempted alongside four tackles and two interceptions.

Martin Odegaard continues to excel

Similar to Partey, Odegaard had a slow start to the campaign after joining the Gunners permanently from Real Madrid. He was in and out of the line-up until December, when he cemented his starting spot.

The Norwegian has since made key goal contributions for the Gunners. While he has not directly contributed to many goals, his work rate and precise passing range has mesmerised fans.

One such example was against the Foxes. He won six duels alongside three tackles but was most effective in the final third, creating six chances, three more than what the Foxes managed.

Plenty of questions were raised when the Gunners spent £30 million to sign him from Madrid after a decent loan stint. He has already answered critics, working as a perfect foil for the club’s attack.

Aaron Ramsdale redeems himself

Ramsdale has been one of the signings of the season but had recently gone through a tough period in goal where he was guilty of making errors with his distribution in particular.

The England star was much assured against the Foxes with some quality long balls. However, his most crucial impact was the strong right-handed save from a Harvey Barnes header in the 36th minute.

The 23-year-old showed terrific reflexes. It was pretty reminiscent of his stunning save to deny James Maddison during the reverse fixture in October last year. Even Brendan Rodgers was amazed.

Ramsdale’s intervention was pivotal, considering it was the Foxes’ best phase in the game. The shot-stopper now has 12 shutouts from just 23 league appearances for the Gunners.
