Brighton & Hove Albion vs Liverpool: Preview – Prediction, team news, line-ups

Saturday’s Premier League action gets underway at the Amex Stadium as out-of-sorts Brighton & Hove Albion take on high-flying Liverpool.

Last weekend’s 2-1 defeat away to Newcastle United made it four league losses in a row for the Seagulls, who are now stuck in 13th in the Premier League table.

Coming into this matchday, the Reds have strung together seven Premier League victories to return in contention for the title, with their gap on table-topping Manchester City now reduced to six points.

Jurgen Klopp’s men, who also have a game in hand on the Etihad Stadium outfit, survived Champions League drama in midweek en route to crashing Inter Milan out of the competition.

After a 2-0 first-leg triumph in Italy, Liverpool suffered their first home reverse at Anfield this season as Lautaro Martinez gave the Nerazzurri a 1-0 victory on Tuesday.

Match Preview

Brighton & Hove Albion

Underperforming Brighton face the prospect of losing five successive league matches since 2007 when they had five defeats on the trot as a League One side.

A lack of firepower has seen Graham Potter’s team find the net just once in that four-game sequence, further underlining the Seagulls’ scoring woes this season.

Only rock-bottom Norwich City and relegation-battling Burnley have netted fewer goals in the Premier League than Brighton (26) this season, with just 38% of those goals coming at the Amex.

More comfortable on the road, they have amassed only 42% of their points this Premier League campaign at home (14/33), while their 1.08 point-per-home-match ratio remains their lowest in the competition.

Liverpool

Liverpool have been rock-solid at the back of late, keeping four clean sheets across their last five Premier League outings, with the exception of a 3-1 home win over Norwich.

Since being held to a 2-2 draw to Chelsea on New Year’s Day, the Reds have only conceded once in their last five road trips across all competitions.

Klopp’s men have been nothing short of impressive on the other end of the pitch, scoring a league-high 71 goals this Premier League season, 45 more than their opponents.

Liverpool are two goals away from becoming the second team after Manchester United to hit a 2,000-goal milestone in the Premier League history.

Team News

Adam Webster faces at least another week on the sidelines after picking up a groin injury, while Brighton hope to have Enock Mwepu back from a thigh problem.

As for Liverpool, Roberto Firmino is still out with a muscle injury, though Klopp does not have any other selection concerns following Thiago Alcantara’s return to the fold against Inter.

Brighton & Hove Albion Potential Starting XI:

(3-5-2): Robert Sanchez; Joel Veltman, Lewis Dunk, Shane Duffy; Tariq Lamptey, Jakub Moder, Yves Bissouma, Pascal Gross, Marc Cucurella; Trossard, Neal Maupay.

Liverpool Potential Starting XI:

(4-3-3): Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson; Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita; Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diego Jota.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Liverpool Prediction

Liverpool will look to put the Inter defeat firmly behind and maintain their Premier League title hopes, with a game in hand on Man City giving them realistic chances to re-establish domestic supremacy.

The Reds will have an added motive to thrive at the Amex after going winless in their last three Premier League matches against Brighton (D2, L1).

We back the visitors to take home all three points.

Brighton & Hove Albion 0-2 Liverpool.
