Barcelona outcast Riqui Puig ready to leave the club on loan

Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig has decided to accept loan offers this summer to get regular game time, as per a report from La Vanguardia.

The Spaniard was considered among the finest youngsters from La Masia but has found his transition to the first team very difficult.

The 22-year-old struggled for regular minutes under previous manager Ronald Koeman, who preferred more physical midfielders.

There was a big hope that Puig’s fortunes could change with the arrival of Xavi, who had previously spoken highly of the Spanish U21 star.

However, Puig continues to be down the pecking order while fellow La Masia graduates Gavi and Nico Gonzalez have become an integral part of the squad this season.

Puig has now changed his stance on rejecting loan offers and is ready to leave the Nou Camp in search of regular game time this summer.

It looks like a good decision from the Spaniard as he would find it hard to beat Pedri, Nico and Gavi to become a regular for the club.

Puig’s contract runs out in 2023, and several clubs are reportedly keeping tabs on his situation.

Xavi has steadied the ship after a disastrous start to the season, with Barca currently sitting fourth in the La Liga table.

The Blaugrana will face Napoli in the away leg of Europa League’s play-off round on Thursday, with the first leg ending in a 1-1 draw.
