Jesse Lingard denied deadline day exit amid Newcastle, West Ham interest

Manchester United star Jesse Lingard have been prevented from leaving Old Trafford on the deadline day of the January transfer window, according to ESPN.

It was reported that Newcastle United and West Ham United had been battling to sign Lingard on loan on the deadline day.

The Englishman also received the green light for his departure from Ralf Rangnick after informing him about his desire to get regular game time to sustain a place in the national team for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

However, the Red Devils board have blocked the transfer at the last minute, much to Lingard’s dismay.

Newcastle were in pole position to sign the 29-year-old last week before United asked for a survival bonus if the Magpies, who are 18th in the Premier League, avoid relegation.

The Hammers joined the race late in the day as they looked for Lingard to repeat his successful loan spell from last season.

Lingard has made only nine league appearances this term and was not summoned by England manager Gareth Southgate for the international break in November.

However, the Red Devils have allowed Donny van de Beek to join Everton on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Toffees will cover the Dutch midfielder’s salary, but there is no option of a permanent transfer in the deal.

Amad Diallo was also loaned to Scottish club Rangers days ago, with the Ivorian youngster making an immediate impact by scoring on his debut

Having sent a chunk of attacking talents on loan, and while Mason Greenwood’s future is hanging in the balance, United decided to keep Lingard.
