Lyon have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for the loan signing of Giovani Lo Celso, according to French outlet L’Equipe.

The Argentine midfielder is one of several players tipped to leave Spurs before the January transfer window closes, as he is not in Antonio Conte’s plans.

Lo Celso has failed to make a mark with Spurs since his highly touted transfer from Real Betis in 2020.

The 25-year-old has once again been hampered with injuries this season, making only nine Premier League appearances.

Ligue 1 outfit Lyon are looking to provide Lo Celso with an escape route by signing him on loan until the end of this season.

Les Gones are also reportedly ready to cover half of his salary, but there isn’t any agreement over a permanent transfer.

Lucas Paqueta has successfully reinvigorated his form at Lyon following his troubled spell at AC Milan. Lo Celso is now looking to follow in the footsteps of the Brazilian midfielder.

Despite his struggles in London, Lo Celso continues to be regular for the Argentine national team, earning 37 caps.

He was also an integral part of Lionel Scaloni’s squad that lifted the Copa America title last year.

Like Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele has also been heavily linked with an exit in the January transfer window, with Paris Saint-Germain leading the race to sign him ahead of Everton.

Lyon have endured a troubled campaign in Ligue 1 this term and are currently 11th in the Ligue 1 table.

They are close to parting ways with talented midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who has agreed to join Premier League outfit Newcastle United.

Lo Celso’s acquisition will certainly improve Lyon’s midfield that already features Maxence Caqueret and Houssem Aouar.
