Newcastle United are reportedly targeting Sevilla defender Diego Carlos.

The 28-year-old has been one of the key members of Julen Lopetegui’s side this season.

He has started 19 La Liga matches for Rojiblancos, scoring twice.

Carlos has sparked transfer interest from Newcastle who are looking to bolster their defensive ranks in this transfer window.

As per 90min, the Magpies have been in talks with Sevilla for more than a week over a move for Carlos.

Our View

Carlos joined the Rojiblancos in the summer of 2019 from Nantes. He established himself as a key player for the La Liga club.

Since he arrived in Seville, he has made 118 appearances across all competitions, bagging five goals (stats from Transfermarkt).

The Brazilian would be an excellent addition for the Magpies, who have already signed Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid and Chris Wood from Burnley

However, it is uncertain whether the Spanish outfit would let one of their key players leave in the middle of the season.

Julen Lopetegui’s side are currently second in the table, having secured 44 points from 20 matches.

They are five points behind Real Madrid but have played a game less than Los Blancos.
