Newcastle United are ready to hand Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele a bumper contract to sign him on a free transfer.

The France international has been with the Blaugrana for four-and-a-half seasons, but he could soon part ways with them.

His current deal expires at the end of the campaign, and the Catalan giants are yet to convince him to pen a new long-term contract.

Amidst this, Mundo Deportivo claims that the Magpies are leading the race to sign him after their takeover by a Saudi-led consortium.

The Tyneside outfit want to make him one of their marquee signings and are ready to hand a bumper contract worth €15 million per year.

They are also willing to hand Dembele a €15m signing-on fee next summer while his agent will be rewarded with a separate commission fee.

The Magpies are currently rooted to the bottom of the league standings, five points adrift of safety.

The club are likely to go on a winter spending spree to bolster different areas of the squad so they can avoid relegation.

This will be imperative to sign Dembele next summer, but there remains a potential risk for them with his injury record.

The 24-year-old has spent vast periods on the sidelines with muscle and knee injuries since joining the Blaugrana in 2017.

He has been limited to just 120 appearances in this period, and signing him on a big salary package may be a gamble.

There will be significant money to spend for Eddie Howe, but the club need to make the right signings to make gradual progress.
